This past year Republicans have made strides in restoring common sense law and order in the Commonwealth. We at the Republican Party of Virginia want to highlight the fantastic work our Delegates and Senators in the General Assembly were able to accomplish this past session.

Today we highlight Delegate John McGuire. You may have seen the Governor signing a bill to reduce taxes on military retirement pay. During the 2022 legislative session, Delegate McGuire carried HB 1128 ( [link removed] ) , the House equivalent of the Governor’s Bill,  which amended the tax code to provide for a subtraction of income tax for our military retirees. Through 2024, Military retirees in the Commonwealth could be eligible for up to a $20,000 subtraction from their income tax.

For years many veterans have decided to move away from the Commonwealth upon retirement because of the undue tax burden on their retirement. Now thanks in part to Delegate McGuire, Virginia is no longer one of three States that fully taxes military retirement pay.
