Before joining Campaign Legal Center, I was an environmental organizer focused on climate change legislation in rural Missouri. We found a lot of interest and excitement from citizens across the political spectrum, but it was difficult to win on pressing issues when the democratic process wasn’t working for us. That still rings true today!
Our democracy must be more inclusive so that all Americans can participate in and affect the democratic process.
With campaigns like Restore Your Vote, and by fighting felony disenfranchisement laws in the courts, CLC is dedicated to making it better. We can’t continue doing this critical work without your support.
Restore Your Vote helps educate the 23 million Americans with past convictions about their rights. Right now, millions of these citizens don’t participate because of misinformation and suppression that makes them think that they do not have the right to vote.
Restore Your Vote makes an impact by:
- Directly working to restore voting rights
- Empowering community leaders to understand rights restoration laws
- Dispelling the false notion that a felony conviction always means you cannot vote
We’re also challenging the laws that disenfranchise people with past convictions. We’re fighting Florida’s requirement that denies the vote to people with past convictions until they pay outstanding fines and fees. We know that wealth – or lack of it – should never determine whether someone can vote.
