Hello there — I just landed in West Virginia today, one of our Groundwork partner states and I wanted to touch base with you quickly.
I’m already on the road with GWP Executive Director, Emily. We grabbed some early coffee for a long day of traveling and meetings with grantees, partners, and friends. Here we are with Groundwork grantee Jenny Williams of the West Virginia Faith Coalition.

We have a packed schedule during our time in the Mountain State – meeting with dedicated folks like Dr. Shanequa Smith who leads the Black Voter Impact Initiative, a Groundwork Grantee, which empowers BIPOC voters in West Virginia and is training the next generation of Black youth organizers. Partners like her are putting in the work to make a difference, and we’re here to help.
I’m eager to see the work our partners are doing firsthand. And even more excited to share with you all what I learn and experience over the next few days.
In the meantime, while I am on the road, I am missing out on some valuable call time to build out the resources for our upcoming grants and mini-grants. Any chance you can chip in now to help keep us on track?

Building networks and supporting people who are building infrastructure in their communities not only benefits them, it helps us bring more voices to the table in ways that the political establishment never could have imagined. Groundwork is the only national organization wholly focused on funding organizing in red states and the only national organization committed to strategic, multi-year, sustained investments in these places. That’s why I started the Groundwork Project, and that’s why we are working so hard.
As I said, I am so excited to see how that work and mission are being put into action as I am on the ground in West Virginia this week.
More soon!
