Dear John,

Yesterday’s vote by the U.S. House of Representatives to impeach Donald Trump for abuse of power was historic. The impeachment is a pledge not to allow Trump’s self-serving corruption to become normalized, that we will not be desensitized to the corrosion of our democracy, that we will act before it is too late.

This vote would not have been possible without the work it took to elect a Democratic majority and a new class of progressive leaders in the House of Representatives. The tremendous work of activists, community groups, and everyone who talked to neighbors, knocked on doors, made calls, and rallied to elect the blue wave that took back the House last November got us to this moment. Insurgent progressives and swing-district moderates came together, backed by the energy of their constituents and their commitment to our democratic institutions.

Now, the center of gravity shifts to the Senate, as it so often does. If only we had a blue wave there.

Fortunately, 2020 is our chance to do just that. So I hope you’ll join me at two great events in January to get started:

First, I’m thrilled to join the host committee for a fabulous night of storytelling, comedy, music and fundraising for Swing Left’s effort to take back the Senate on January 8. Swing Left is raising money for the Democratic candidates for the U.S. Senate in 8 key states. If we want to fix any of the massive problems facing our country—from the climate crisis, to immigration, to income inequality, to the Supreme Court—we need power in the Senate. (Plus there’s some great talent, including Shaina Taub, Paola Mendoza, Aparna Nancherla and more).

Wednesday, January 8
Doors: 7:00PM | Show: 7:30PM
The Bell House: 149 7th St, Brooklyn, NY 11215

And second, join me and an amazing group of leaders on January 14 to support Vote Mama. Founded by former congressional candidate Liuba Gretchen-Shirley, Vote Mama is dedicated to electing Democratic moms up and down the ballot. When we have more moms in office, we won’t cut food stamps, deprive women of maternity care, or be the only country in the world without paid family leave. And we’ll have more young girls looking up at their moms and thinking: running for office is the most natural thing in the world.

Tuesday, January 14
6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Home of Gale Kaufman and Michael van Biema, Park Slope, Brooklyn
Tickets: [link removed] [[link removed]]

Our democracy is on the ballot in 2020. Thankfully, there are so many inspiring leaders and organizers who are taking up the fight. They need our support.

I hope to see you in early January!

Brad
