Happy September, John!
It’s back-to-school, which is a great time to study up on organizing for abortion rights and reproductive justice! Want to check out the syllabus? View our Movement Building webinar series!
Also happening this month is International Day for Safe Abortion on September 28. This year’s theme, Abortion in Uncertain Times highlights the importance of understanding the protocol for self-managed abortion with misoprostol.
Online Actions:
● Show your support for abortion access by submitting a photo and a brief statement that captures your pro-abortion sentiments. Your statement of support could speak to the importance of legal access to abortion, the harmful effects of abortion stigma, the need to stop prosecuting abortion, your support for self-managed abortion with pills, or any other points you want to make. Your quote and photo will be combined in a graphic and sent to you for your approval before it’s posted publicly on Reproaction’s social media accounts.
Participate by submitting your information into this Google form.
● Take a moment TODAY to tell the federal government that LGBTQ+ students should be protected from discrimination. The Title IX rule is open for public comment until midnight Eastern on Monday, September 12. You may use this template or write your own comment in support. You can share this template with friends too!
● Tell Google to stop profiting from anti-abortion disinformation by helping lies displace evidence-driven healthcare, through our friends at the Center for Countering Digital Hate. Sign the petition here.
Self-Care
Self-care is an intentional practice that roots us in the present despite the oppression we may face. Regular self-care is essential for sustainable and effective activism.
Here are our self-care tips for September:
-
Get a weighted blanket. Look up the recommended blanket weight that corresponds with your weight and then look for a deal. Thank me later! - Eva, movement building and research manager based in Columbia, Missouri.
-
Spend time outside! Even though it's hot right now, getting outside and being part of nature or your community can help you feel grounded and more connected to the world. It's also important to get your vitamin D! I've found that spending time outside really calms me down and helps me remember that I'm part of a diverse and beautiful community! - Anvita, campaign coordinator based in Houston, Texas.
In Solidarity,
