The passing of the Inflation Reduction Act will provide historic funding for clean energy, electric vehicles, and other climate solutions. But, it came at a steep price: including a “side deal” to get Senator Manchin’s support that could fast-track numerous coal, crude oil, and gas development projects across the country, harming frontline communities, polluting their air and water supply, endangering wildlife, and accelerating the climate crisis. Senator Manchin's Dirty Deal takes aim at the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) and the Clean Water Act (CWA), two bedrock environmental protection laws. The science is crystal clear: we cannot afford any new coal, oil, or gas projects if we are going to avoid climate catastrophe. Whether it be the communities who live next to these projects suffering from the immediate pollution to their air and water or the effects of climate change that disproportionately affects them, these projects will be a double bad deal. Green America has teamed up with our allies to demand our members of Congress to stop Machin’s Dirty Deal. |
