Even when running as intended, refineries leak enough pollution to increase respiratory illness like asthma and even lung cancer for surrounding populations. Add the continued inevitability of oil spills, and the results are catastrophic to public health and ecosystems.

Beyond the health risks, the damage permeates to the loss of fishing and tourist industries, which so many communities rely on.

This cycle must stop. That’s why EnviroVoters is urging the Biden Administration to finalize an offshore drilling plan with no new leasing.

With gas prices rising higher and higher across the country, anti-science politicians are pushing for more oil and gas leasing to “lower costs.” This is a lie.

More leasing for offshore drilling will only lock us into decades of fossil fuel destruction and dependency – and will not influence prices at the pump for years.

Instead, it will only put our coastal communities, marine life, public health, and climate at unimaginable risk.

Please, take immediate action to prevent new plans for offshore drilling.
