During our debate last week, one particularly shocking—but somehow not surprising—thing happened: after I criticized him for voting against renewing the Violence Against Women Act, Ken Buck got flustered and defensive and said he voted against VAWA because those accused of domestic abuse would have their right to possess firearms infringed.
That’s right: Ken Buck is, by his own admission, more concerned about the gun rights of alleged domestic abusers than the women and children that are put at risk by those abusers.
According to Everytown for Gun Safety, “[E]very month, an average of 70 women are shot and killed by an intimate partner. Nearly 1 million women alive today have reported being shot or shot at by intimate partners, and 4.5 million women have reported being threatened with a gun by an intimate partner.”
Buck has a reprehensible record on women: standing against the right to choose, including exceptions for rape and incest; and as DA of Weld County, blaming a rape victim for her rape and refusing to prosecute the rapist, stating that the victim might just have “a case of buyer’s remorse.”
Thank you so much for supporting my campaign. My team and I are working hard to win votes and to bring real representation to this district.
