Welcome to Thursday, December 19th, YEAs and NAYS...

President Donald Trump has become the third U.S. president in history to be impeached by the House.

Trump was impeached on two articles:

  • Article 1 — Abuse of Power (229 Democrats and 1 Independent voting YEA; 197 Republicans and 2 Democrats voting NAY; 1 Democrat voting PRESENT)
  • Article 2 — Obstruction of Congress (228 Democrats and 1 Independent voting YEA; 195 Republicans and 3 Democrats voting NAY; 1 Democrat voting PRESENT)

Only two other presidents have been impeached: Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998. Richard Nixon resigned before a House vote.

Next up: The GOP-controlled Senate holds hearings then votes whether to convict Trump on the two impeachment articles.

Even before the House vote, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said "there's no chance" Trump is removed from office.

“The case is so darn weak coming from the House. We know how it's going to end.”

Do you support or oppose the impeachment vote?

Under the Radar

USMCA

The House is now considering the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which would replace the North American Free Trade Act (NAFTA) in governing trade between the three nations.

Those in favor of the USMCA argue the bipartisan trade agreement will create jobs in the U.S., strengthen American manufacturing and intellectual property, open markets to U.S. exporters, and protect labor and environmental interests.

Those opposed say while it may be bipartisan, the USMCA doesn’t do enough to open markets in Mexico and Canada to U.S. exporters or contain strong enough protections for the environment and workers.

Should the USMCA replace NAFTA?
