Dear NRDC Activist,
Alaska's pristine, wildlife-filled Bristol Bay is still under attack.
The Canadian mining company Northern Dynasty's Pebble Mine project is a colossal, gold and copper mega-mine that threatens to destroy a crucial watershed that is one of the last places on Earth where wild salmon still thrive. We're fighting back, but we need your help.
Will you make a 3X matched, tax-deductible donation to NRDC today?
Your gift of just $5 or more will immediately help mobilize advocates against the Pebble Mine, wage critical courtroom battles to protect Bristol Bay, and defend our environment on every front. All gifts will be matched 3X, up to our $100,000 goal, but ONLY UNTIL TOMORROW!
Bristol Bay is a critical region that has supported the Native communities of the region for centuries. Its watershed is an economic engine that supplies more than half of the world's sockeye salmon, generating $2.2 billion in revenue and 15,000 jobs annually.
Years of pressure from local Tribes, backed by hundreds of thousands of NRDC supporters like you, have nearly put the Pebble Mine out of commission once and for all. And we're calling on the EPA to use the Clean Water Act to finalize protections for Bristol Bay by the end of the year.
But Northern Dynasty has secured a massive $60 million boost over the next two years from an undisclosed dark-horse investor — and it's using this cash infusion to keep fighting tooth and claw to force its wilderness-wrecking mega-mine on the Tribal communities of Bristol Bay.
If and when the EPA finalizes the protections for Bristol Bay, we fully expect Northern Dynasty to launch an aggressive legal assault on that decision. NRDC must be fully prepared to hit back hard in court!
Make a tax-deductible donation today. We'll use those resources to go to court as needed to protect Bristol Bay, and defend our environment on every front. All gifts will be matched 3X, up to our $100,000 goal, but ONLY until TOMORROW.
Pebble Mine cannot be allowed to go forward. If built, the mine would produce up to 10 billion tons of mining waste, threatening the world's largest wild sockeye salmon runs and the lives and livelihoods of the regions Yup'ik, Dena'ina, and Alutiiq people.
We need to strike back to protect Bristol Bay, in court and beyond.
Can you help protect Bristol Bay from this destructive pit once and for all? Donate to NRDC today to have your gift matched to go THREE times as far for the environment — but hurry, this match opportunity ends at midnight tomorrow!
Thank you for your critical support in the fight to stop Pebble Mine.
Sincerely,
Taryn Kiekow Heimer
