United States Remembers 9/11 on 21st Anniversary, Biden Delivers Speech Stressing Significance of Democracy

Daily Wire: Americans across the country are remembering the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, 21 years ago. In New York City, the National September 11 Memorial and Museum hosted an annual ceremony commemorating and honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001. The Tribute in Light, NYC Fire Museum and Memorial Service, and Tunnel to Towers 9/11 Prayer Service are among the events that are taking place. The 9/11 Memorial and Museum Commemoration Ceremony included six moments of silence, marking the exact time each of the towers was deliberately struck by hijacked airplanes, then fell to the ground, and when a third airplane hit the Pentagon, followed by the crash of United Flight 93 near Shanksville, Pennsylvania (Daily Wire). National Review: The president pointed to the importance of “democracy” in his speech — a strategy he has employed going into the midterms. “It’s not enough to stand up for democracy once a year or every now and then. It’s something we have to do every single day,” Biden said. “So this is a day not only to remember, but a day of renewal and resolve for each and every American and our devotion to this country” (National Review).

Pentagon Urges Soldiers, Struggling to Feed Their Families, to Apply for Welfare

Daily Wire: The Pentagon is recommending U.S. soldiers struggling with soaring food prices apply for welfare, in a move that underscores both low military pay and the economic headwinds facing the nation as a whole. The recommendation came last month from Sergeant Major of the Army Michael Grinston, and directs Army soldiers and their families to apply for food stamps through the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program known by the acronym SNAP (Daily Wire). Political Insider: Food insecurity for troops is not a new problem, but the recent surge in inflation has put service members in an even tougher situation (Political Insider). Laughing Libertarian: Billions and billions for Biden’s suicidal Green New Deal and Ukraine, no money to feed our soldiers and families (Twitter)!

Sen. Manchin’s Deal Struck with Schumer for Concession on the “Inflation Reduction Act” is Met with Massive Democrat Disapproval

Associated Press: Democrats desperately needed the vote of Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia to get their signature legislative priority across the finish. So they did what Washington does best: They cut a deal. Manchin said he secured a commitment from President Joe Biden and Democratic leaders to move a permitting-streamlining package for energy projects through Congress before Sept. 30, the end of the current fiscal year. Now the climate bill is law, and Manchin is ready to collect. But key Democratic constituency groups are lining up against the proposal, calling it bad for the country and the climate. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and dozens of House members agree (Associated Press). Fox News: Nearly a third of House Democrats warned Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Friday against tying this month’s must-pass government funding bill to legislation spurring oil and gas drilling that is desired by Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va. Seventy-one House Democrats penned a letter to Pelosi, D-Calif., warning that the bill’s inclusion will force them to seriously consider voting against the short-term government funding measure, known as a continuing resolution (Fox News).

Russia Retreats From Eastern Kharkiv Region as Ukraine’s Massive Counteroffensive Liberates Area

NBC: Ukrainian forces kept up their surge in the country’s east Saturday after punching through Russian defenses in a surprise counteroffensive that could prove a decisive turning point in the war. Kyiv said its military had recaptured swaths of territory in a fast-moving thrust centered on the region around Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, that threatened to turn into a much broader rout (NBC). Associated Press: Russia’s Defense Ministry announced Saturday that it was pulling back troops from two areas in Ukraine’s eastern Kharkiv region where a Ukrainian counteroffensive has made significant advances in the past week (Associated Press).

Kamala Harris States the Supreme Court is an “Activist Court,” Pushes to End “Archaic” Filibuster

Insider: Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday said the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has made her worried about the “integrity” of the Supreme Court. “I think this is an activist court,” Harris said in an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press.” By overturning Roe, the Supreme Court has put the question of the legality of abortion in the hands of individual state legislatures and has essentially made it illegal in at least 22 states to obtain an abortion. There are expected to be added restrictions in several others (Insider). Townhall: Recently, both Harris and President Joe Biden said they would support changing the Senate’s filibuster rules which would allow the chamber to pass a federal law codifying Roe v Wade with a majority vote instead of the normal 60 vote threshold (Townhall). Fox News: Vice President Kamala Harris said Saturday that she “can’t wait” to cast her vote to end the “archaic” Senate filibuster in order to advance measures that protect abortion at a federal level and implement voting reform legislation (Fox News).

Associate Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayer Allows Yeshiva University to Not Recognize LGBTQ Pride Group on Campus

PJ Media: Associate Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayer has granted a request for New York’s Yeshiva University to temporarily continue banning an LGBTQ Pride group from being recognized as an official university organization (PJ Media). Wall Street Journal: The YU Pride Alliance and several students sued the university in state court last year after administrators refused to recognize the undergraduate group as an official student club. The Orthodox Jewish university argues that such recognition would violate its religious values, but New York appellate courts declined to block the trial judge’s order while appeals proceed. Last month, Yeshiva filed an emergency application with Justice Sotomayor asking the Supreme Court to intervene (Wall Street Journal). Becket: Justice Sotomayor has just stayed a New York court ruling, protecting Yeshiva University from having to imminently violate the Torah values that form its religious identity (Becket).

As We See Two Million Illegal Border Crossings, Kamala Harris: “The Border is Secure”

Newsbusters: On Sunday’s Meet the Press, viewers learned that there are indeed Democrat lies so preposterous even Chuck Todd won’t fall for them. During his exclusive interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, Todd appeared flabbergasted by Harris’s claim that the southern border is secure. Towards the end of a wide ranging interview that touched on topics from the 2022 midterms to abortion, Todd asked Harris about the ongoing crisis at the southern border in which a record number of illegals have been crossing over into the United States (Newsbusters). Reporter Brent Baker: Even @ChuckTodd befuddled. To VP Kamala Harris: “We’re going to have two million people cross this border for the first ever. You’re confident this border is secure” (Twitter). Breitbart: Harris said, “I think that there is no question we have to do what the president and I asked Congress to do, the first request we made, pass a bill to create a pathway to citizenship.” She added, “The border is secure, but we also have a broken immigration system in particular over the last four years before we came in, and it needs to be fixed” (Breitbart).

Democrat Mayor of New Orleans Declines to Repay Taxpayers $30,000 for Funding First Class Luxury Flights

New York Post: The Democrat mayor of New Orleans is refusing to reimburse the almost $30,000 of taxpayer money she has spent upgrading flights to first class or business class, despite city policy — after she insisted it was for her safety as a black woman. Mayor LaToya Cantrell told local reporters Thursday she won’t fork over the exorbitant fees she charged for the upgraded tickets, including an $18,000 first-class trip to France over the summer (New York Post). Daily Mail: The Chief Administrative Officer has revealed how the law department is still examining whether Cantrell must reimburse almost $30,000 in taxpayer money for first-class tickets to France and Switzerland. The mayor insists that the trips and luxury travel expenses were necessary in order to better New Orleans itself. But the city’s travel policy leaves little room for maneuver: ‘Employees are required to purchase the lowest airfare available… Employees who choose an upgrade from coach, economy, or business class flights are solely responsible for the difference in cost’ (Daily Mail).

North Korea Vastly Expands Conditions on Use of Nuclear Weapons

Daily Wire: A new law passed by North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un’s puppet parliament will allow for the leader to fire a preemptive nuclear attack if the country believes such an action would protect it from a threat. North Korea’s new law also ensures that the country will “automatically and immediately” retaliate with nuclear weapons if Kim is killed in an attack. Kim mentioned strained relations with the U.S. as one of the reasons for the importance of the law that he claims is “irreversible.” Kim also reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining his country’s nuclear capabilities, saying North Korea will “never give up nuclear weapons and there is absolutely no denuclearization, and no negotiation and no bargaining chip to trade in the process” (Daily Wire). Politico: Don’t expect President Joe Biden to shift course, though. “Our policy remains unchanged,” Adrienne Watson, the National Security Council spokesperson, told NatSec Daily in an email. The U.S. will continue to coordinate with allies for “the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.” U.S. officials are prepared to meet their North Korean counterparts without preconditions, an offer repeatedly made to counterparts in Pyongyang. North Korea “continues to not respond,” Watson said (Politico). This is what a country like North Korea thinks about the current administration… they are ignoring repeated calls.

UK Looks to Rebrand Coins, Bank Notes, Passports, etc… With King Charles III’s Image

Wall Street Journal: After 70 years on the throne, Queen Elizabeth II’s name, title, face and likeness are deeply ingrained not just on the hearts of many Britons, but more tangibly on British coins, flags, post boxes, chocolate wrappers, gin labels and attorney business cards. That all has to change now that Charles is in charge. With the queen’s death, the U.K. has begun an imperial-sized rebrand that will slowly replace her image and title with that of the new king, Charles III. Among the items that will have to eventually be rebranded: 29 billion coins and 4.7 billion bank notes in circulation (Wall Street Journal). BC: All notes and coins will remain legal tender… All British passports are issued in the name of Her Majesty and are still valid for travel, but for new passports, the wording on the inside of the front cover will be updated to His Majesty (BBC).
