Jack, in 2020, when Trump launched his aggressive campaign to overturn the election, he looked to Secretaries of State and other election officials across the country to refuse to certify the election results. One of the only places where he had any success was the crucial swing state of Michigan, where Republican election officials in highly populous, and heavily Democratic, Wayne County at first refused to certify the election results before backtracking three days later.

Two years later, Michigan Republicans seem to have come around more to Trump's position. Citing grammatical errors, the two Republicans on the state board of canvassers refused to allow a referendum protecting reproductive rights to even be put on the ballot, even though it had far more signatures than required and had the popular support of more than two-thirds of the state. (Thankfully, their attempts were proven unsuccessful by the Michigan Supreme Court which voted in a 5-2 decision to allow the reproductive rights ballot measure to be on the Michigan ballot this fall.)

Additionally, the GOP candidate for Secretary of State in Michigan, Kristina Karamo, is a Trump-endorsed, Big Lie enabler who rose to prominence after allegedly witnessing voter fraud in 2020–claims which have been repeatedly debunked.

Try to imagine, for a moment, Trump endorsed Big Lie endorsers being in charge of running, and certifying, Michigan election results in 2024. Imagine this, because it could actually happen.

Karamo, who is making headlines right now for literally threatening to kill her entire family, is bad news for Michigan. As Secretary of State, she would be the third-highest ranking public official in the state and would oversee elections.

Karamo has joined forces with four other GOP candidates in major swing states to form what they call the “America First Secretary of State Coalition”.The coalition plans to eliminate mail-in ballots and launch an aggressive “clean up” of our democracy.

The former executive director of the Michigan Republican Party has said the Michigan GOP has "made a concerted effort to put election deniers in positions where they can gum up the works, afterward, if they don't win."
