Remembering September 11th

On this day twenty-one years ago, our nation was attacked. We will never forget the lives lost on that fateful day in New York, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania. Today and every day, we honor the bravery and sacrifice of the first responders who didn’t hesitate to answer the call in the face of such a horrific tragedy. Please join me in praying for the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. We will never forget. 

Honoring Tenth District First Responders

It was an honor to return to the East Lincoln Fire Department to present a FEMA Assistance Firefighters Grant check to Chief Tim Tench and his department. I am grateful for the brave men and women that protect our community. It is one of the best parts of my job to have the privilege to recognize them. East Lincoln will use their $88,534.28 check to purchase an exhaust removal system for the department’s station #2.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG) aims to help firefighters and first responders throughout the country. Local departments apply for the grants from the program which is administered by the Grant Programs Directorate of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.These grants are peer-reviewed and competitively awarded. The East Lincoln Fire Department is one of five Tenth District departments to receive AFG funding thus far during the 2021 cycle with a total of $1,266,089 in AFG funds having been awarded among those departments.

Bringing Jobs to the Tenth District

It was great to start my tour of some outstanding Tenth District businesses with Sparty Mill in Lincolnton. Sparty Mill is home to Hodges International, a cut and sew operation that manufactures a variety of products. Thanks to Deanna Hodges for relocating to Lincoln County and bringing new life to this mill.

Next I headed to Huber Technology where Henk-Jan van Ettekoven and the Huber Technology team were fantastic hosts. Huber is a leader in the production of water and wastewater treatment equipment. It was also great to hear about their growth in Lincoln County.

My last stop was with Luciano Delpozzo who gave me a tour of UNOX. UNOX is producing precision commercial ovens with cutting edge technology. I am grateful for their investment in Lincoln County.

My prayers are with the Royal Family, the United Kingdom, and the millions of people around the world mourning the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. She was a beloved leader who was truly dedicated to serving her people throughout her 70 year reign. May she rest in peace.
