President Biden is being very direct in addressing the threat that is facing our cherished democracy.
He has really stepped to the plate to speak truth and face down our greatest challenge: the antidemocratic sickness that has infected the GOP. This MAGA infection is spreading fast. It consumes the old-school Republicans that it doesn’t knock out of office.
We need to name the disease if we are going to treat it, and that’s exactly what our president has been doing.
President Biden pulled minced no words when speaking at Philadelphia's Independence Hall:
“And here, in my view, is what is true: MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution. They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people. They refuse to accept the results of a free election, and they’re working right now as I speak in state after state to give power to decide elections in America to partisans and cronies, empowering election deniers to undermine democracy itself.”
The truth of President Biden’s unflinching words has MAGA Republicans fuming.
MAGA Republican House Leader Kevin McCarthy is now calling on President Biden to apologize for calling Trump’s loyalists semi-fascist. McCarthy is the one that needs to apologize. McCarthy’s failure to acknowledge the Jan 6 insurrection for the treason it was makes it more likely that a similar event will occur in the future.
We need to fight for President Biden as he fights for us if we are going to defend our democracy from the twisted ideology that has taken root in the Republican party.
