As you probably know by now, last month Congress passed — and President Biden signed into law — the Inflation Reduction Act, landmark climate legislation which has the potential to cut U.S. greenhouse gas pollution by 40 percent by 2030. That’s major progress toward the 50-52% reduction we must reach by the end of the decade to avert the worst impacts of climate change.
Of course, the bill is not perfect. It includes some giveaways to the fossil fuel industry that will perpetuate harm on low-income communities and people of color. There is more work to do to capture the full potential a clean energy economy has to offer, and build a safer, healthier, more just future for all. We’re ready – and we hope you are too.
