John,
Twenty-one years ago, our country watched in horror as an act of terrorism took the lives of thousands of Americans. Today, we remember the victims and the brave service members and volunteers who rushed to save the lives of complete strangers.
What happened in the aftermath of the attack proved that the fabric of America cannot be easily torn.
Americans came together to take care of each other, to provide for and protect each other. We saw our nation’s strength and resilience. We saw innumerable acts of heroism, compassion, and sacrifice on that day and every day in the two decades since. We saw the best of our nation in the darkest of times.
That’s the America I’m proud to live in, and that’s the America I work for every day in Congress.
Today, I hope you will take a moment to remember those we lost and the families who mourn them, and celebrate the survivors.
I know I will.
