Hi John –
Today was a historic day. My colleagues and I voted to send two articles of impeachment to the Senate, where I hope Senate Republicans will embark on a serious endeavor to find the truth behind the allegations of misconduct by President Trump and his associates.
The House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees worked hard over the past few weeks to hold fair inquiry hearings and lay out the facts for the American people. President Trump was given the opportunity to participate in the inquiry or send a representative to the hearings. However, he has refused to give any explanation for his actions and shunned the proceedings entirely.
The evidence points to President Trump’s attempt to use taxpayer funds to bribe a foreign leader to target his political opponents. This is a clear abuse of power that violates his oath of office and threatens our national security. He then obstructed justice to obscure his wrongdoing from public scrutiny.
I did not take this vote lightly. Not one of us came to Congress to impeach a president. But shady dark money groups aligned with National Republicans are already spending money in my district, running advertisements that call me a crazed partisan, hell-bent on impeachment.
Nothing could be further from the truth. I have been waiting to hear President Trump’s innocent explanation and have not yet heard one.
I am a top target for the GOP in 2020 as they attempt to take back control of the House – and these unfounded attacks are a critical part of their strategy. Today, I am asking for your support, which allows me to continue to fight back against this partisan rancor and return to why I’m in Congress in the first place – to fight for Pennsylvania families and ordinary Americans.
I took an oath to support, uphold, and defend our Constitution. I will fulfill my duty to the Constitution and remain faithful to that oath, no matter how unpopular it may be.
