Today we're going to talk about classified documents and, in particular, the egregious theft of those documents by ex-President Trump.
?
I've had a security clearance at various levels for over 10 years. Document control (ie, not taking classified documents out of classified workspaces) is incredibly important. The world is full of actors who would love to know what the US government does, and it's up to every cleared individual to protect the information we use. That means various restrictions: proper access control to documents, proper storage, and even protecting information from inadvertent disclosure (no cell phones near classified!).
?
Given that background, it's absolutely clear to me that Trump should be in jail. Putting aside whether he sold or lost the contents of the now-empty classified folders, or if just "kept the folders as "momentos." The classified information he did keep posed a serious threat to national security.
?
The man stole nuclear documents and kept them in his house!
?
Anyone else would be in jail for what he did, but instead he has a young, incompetent, and biased judge protecting him. Trump doesn't need a special master, and every delay is yet another example of the rich and powerful getting away with crimes that would (rightfully) be punished if they had been committed by normal Americans.
?
I swore an oath to protect this country from all enemies, foreign and domestic. It has been clear for years that Trump always put America last when it came to his own self-interest. It is painfully obvious now: from Ukraine (impeachment #1), to his actions January 6 (impeachment #2), and now to the documents he squirreled away to Mar-a-Lago.
?
And yet this judge, like most Republican politicians, continues to protect Trump from the consequences of his own actions. There is Trumpism rot in the judiciary, and Trumpism rot in Congress. If American democracy is going to survive, we need to turn out and vote in November.
