It’s official. The state senate has passed a dangerous and unpopular near-total abortion ban in South Carolina. Now, it goes back to the state house.

This is a disgrace for every woman in our state and the cost of inaction is too great.

This legislation makes it more difficult for doctors to provide reproductive care, and requires doctors who provide services to victims of rape and incest to report the situation to law enforcement and provide them with DNA samples… and it wasn’t even the worst version of the bill they were considering.

They are trying to turn S.C. into a police state, and we have to step up, unify, and fight back at the ballot box.

My opponent, Nancy Mace, helped write the near-total abortion ban and has consistently voted against our abortion rights since entering Congress. The strongest message South Carolinians can send now is to vote anti-abortion Mace out of power.

My team is organizing across the Lowcountry right now to do just that and I just got the endorsement of Planned Parenthood in this crucial race, because I would never let politicians decide what we can and can’t do with our bodies.

As a doctor, I know these decisions should be kept between patients and their healthcare providers. The decision Republicans like Mace want us to make is between women dying because they can’t get an abortion and doctors being jailed if they provide one.

On Mace’s old campaign website, she bragged about voting to block funding for Planned Parenthood, sponsoring the anti-abortion South Carolina Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act, and supporting South Carolina’s abortion ban.

And that’s just what she did in the state legislature. In Congress, she’s helped block abortion rights bills from becoming law since day one.
