Hi friend, it's Eric Sorensen -- the meteorologist and Democrat running to keep Illinois' 17th Congressional District blue.
We have a number of campaign updates I wanted to loop you in on. Here’s what you need to know about the race in IL-17.
- Last month, new polling emerged showing our race in a statistical dead heat. It's tied at 46%-46% with roughly 8% undecided. Our job over the next two months will be swaying these 8% our direction.
- We're still expecting my opponent Esther King to receive a major fundraising boost courtesy of Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy's super PAC. He already admitted staking his career on the outcome of our race, and he's made it clear he plans to bankroll King's candidacy if need be.
- With McCarthy zeroing in, the reputable election analysts at Inside Elections downgraded the 17th District from “Tilt Democratic” to “Toss-up”. They specifically cite King's cash advantage as a factor that makes this race so close.
- We are in the process of launching our first flight of direct mailers, and TV and digital advertisements to get the word out about my campaign. Right now, we need some additional support ramping up these programs:
We're aiming to bring in $6,500 before the week ends to keep pace in the face of our opponent's spending. Will you chip in $5 today to keep this seat blue in November?
