Today was a solemn day for the country. President Trump is a clear threat to our democracy and our national security. His actions have left us no choice but to impeach him for his abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Presidents are not kings.

Donald Trump has done a lot of shady, corrupt things in his lifetime -- especially as President of the United States.

But this time is different.

Trump himself admitted that he pressured Ukraine, a foreign country, to work with his campaign staff to dig up dirt on a potential political opponent in 2020. He then withheld vital military aid to Ukraine until they delivered on this "favor."

Trump abused his power to swing the 2020 election in his favor. We cannot allow this unhinged president to throw our democratic norms out the window and destroy our country, our government, and our democracy.

So it is with grave sadness that I voted to impeach Donald Trump today. Impeachment is never easy for a country. But I swore an oath to uphold the Constitution and protect this nation I love from corruption, and that's what I did today.

Trump is not fit for the office he serves, and he must be held accountable.
