An important update from Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington

The United States House of Representatives just voted to impeach President Donald J. Trump.

This is a historic day. We have been fighting for accountability for President Trump’s misconduct for three years, and today, Congress took a historic step toward holding him accountable for his serious abuses of power. He is now only the third president in American history to be impeached.

When we first called for President Trump’s impeachment and removal following Ambassador Sondland’s damning testimony, we said that Trump’s removal from office is the only remedy to protect our democracy from further harm. The House has done its part, and now it’s time for the Senate to act.

We hope every single senator takes seriously their obligation to consider the overwhelming and clear evidence of President Trump’s wrongdoing, as well as their obligation to conduct a fair and impartial trial. Respect for our country and the office of the presidency demands that each and every senator seriously consider removal from office as the correct response to President Trump’s bribery and abuse of power.

Our democracy has been damaged by President Trump’s unprecedented corruption and shocking abuses of power, but together, we’ll continue working to protect our democracy, for as long as it takes.

Thank you for everything you are doing to stand up for our democracy,
