John,
Next week marks 10 years since Officer Bradley Fox — a Marine Corps veteran who survived two tours in Iraq — was shot and killed in the line of duty. The fact that a U.S. Marine who served in war zones was killed on American soil is devastating. At the time he died, Officer Fox was raising a young daughter, and his wife was pregnant with their second child.

Officer Fox and his daughter.
For years, Brady Legal fought to secure justice for Officer Fox’s family. We learned that the gun dealer that sold the gunman his murder weapon made a number of illegal gun sales leading up to Officer Fox’s murder.
After years of fighting, we won a major victory for Officer Fox and his family.
The gun dealer, In Site Firearms, agreed to major reforms, including improving employee training and providing monetary compensation for Officer Fox’s wife and children. Our legal victory helped secure justice and create a path for gun dealers across the country to make similar business reforms to save lives.
Brady Legal has a long history of taking on and winning cases for gun violence victims and their families, and we do it pro bono because of support from people like you. Please help us keep supporting victims and survivors in court — not only for the families who were victimized, but also to save other families from similar heartache. John, as we mark 10 years since the murder of Officer Fox, can you help us by contributing to our vital work in the courts? [[link removed]]

Brady Announces Firearm Suicide Prevention Day
[link removed] [[link removed]]
This year, Brady and End Family Fire are marking September 13, 2022, as the first-ever Firearm Suicide Prevention Day [[link removed]] . We created Firearm Suicide Prevention Day to educate Americans about the growing firearm suicide crisis and promote the importance of storing firearms safely and securely — which means locked, unloaded, and separate from ammunition — as an essential component of suicide prevention.
Firearm suicide is a growing public health crisis in America. On average, we lose 65 people to firearm suicide every single day — which is more than are lost to firearm murders and unintentional shootings combined. More than half of all gun deaths are suicides. Research shows this outsized epidemic is partly fueled by unsecured firearms. Firearm suicide is a part of “ family fire [[link removed]] ,” or a shooting involving an improperly stored or misused gun in the home that results in death or injury.
Join us in recognizing Firearm Suicide Prevention Day. Learn more during our Twitter Chat on September 13 at 3 p.m. ET with suicide prevention expert Dr. Mike Anestis and more. [[link removed]]

Help Us Keep Jim Brady's Legacy Alive
This week marked 26 years since our namesake and hero, Jim "the Bear" Brady, received the Presidential Medal of Honor from President Clinton — the highest civilian award in the United States. Jim was serving as White House Press Secretary to President Reagan when he was shot in the head during the 1981 attempted assassination on the president.
After the shooting, Jim and his wife, Sarah, dedicated their lives to strengthening our nation's gun laws. They first set their sights on passing the Brady Bill, the first federal law to require background checks for gun sales. It took Jim and Sarah over six years to win the Brady Bill, which President Bill Clinton signed into law in 1993.
But they didn't stop there. The Bradys also helped win the passage of the 1994 federal assault weapons ban alongside then-senator Joe Biden. Today, it's one of our organization's top priorities to reinstate [[link removed]?] the assault weapons ban, which is proven [[link removed]] to have saved countless lives.
This month marks 10 years since Congress let the federal assault weapons ban expire. We’re asking supporters like you to help us continue Jim Brady’s legacy by urging Congress to reinstate this ban. We must demand our lawmakers take action, not sides, and ban assault weapons before we lose any more lives to these weapons of war. [[link removed]]

Brady is an organization led by survivors of gun violence. We’re revisiting an episode with Brenda Haymon, Brady’s director of human resources, to learn about how she survived the tragic murder of her father, Robert Godwin Sr., who was shot and killed while walking home after the family’s Easter meal in 2017. Brenda joins her sisters, Malisa and Tonya, to share advice on how to support those experiencing grief and loss.
