This month marks two years since the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Her absence is felt more than ever as we grapple with the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision.
Here in Washington, we are fortunate to have a state government that not only enshrines the right to abortion into law, but also one that actively works to protect patients from being targeted or penalized for their personal medical decisions.
But, we can’t take that for granted. Republican candidates in the 26th, 30th, and 38th LDs have all touted extreme anti-choice views spanning from total bans to harsh limitations.
- Rep. Jesse Young introduced a bill to ban abortion starting at 15 weeks, falling in line with the harmful “heartbeat bills” pushed by anti-choice groups.
- GOP candidate Linda Kochmar only supports abortion in cases of rape or incest.
- GOP candidate Bernard Moody only supports the right to choose when the life of the mother is at risk.
Republican party leaders have downplayed the issue of abortion in this election because they know public opinion is against them. They want us to believe they won’t attack abortion access if their candidates win, but we can see that’s not the truth.
We must send a clear message to the GOP that Washingtonians stand firmly in support of abortion rights. Add your name right away!
Right-wing legislators have attempted to undermine reproductive rights time and time again, with proposals ranging from all-out bans to defunding abortion care clinics and imposing anti-choice ideology on reproductive health care workers.
State GOP leaders see the overwhelming public opposition to their regressive agenda and are trying to cover their tracks so they can win back the legislative majority.
Washington Democrats are committed to keeping abortion safe and legal in our state, and we won’t let anti-choice extremists undo our progress now.
In honor of Justice Ginsburg’s memory, let’s send Washington Republicans a clear message: We won’t let Washington go backward on abortion rights!
Thanks for being a part of our team.
