Dear Friends,

It has been a busy few weeks traveling across NJ-11 hearing directly from you! Spending time with members of our community and listening to the issues that matter to you makes me a better Congresswoman. I’m writing to recap the end of my summer and share some important resources before heading back to Washington to work on legislation that will lower costs and continue to improve quality of life here in NJ-11. I finished up my summer in NJ-11 by:

• Participating in 10 town halls, forums and roundtables with hundreds of constituents in person and thousands virtually
• Visiting 15 NJ-11 towns
• Hearing from over 40 local, county, and state officials across all 4 counties in NJ-11 
• Meeting with over 100 community organizations, nonprofits and businesses

The wide array of ideas and feedback that my constituents share with me always informs my fight for NJ-11 in Washington. I held a town hall at Montclair State University to provide an update on current events, and answer questions from constituents about my recent work in NJ-11 and Washington. Thanks to Little Falls Mayor Damiano and MSU President Koppell for welcoming me! Click here to watch!

I sat down with NJ businesses, manufacturing, and education leaders at Wireless Telecom Group in Parsippany to hear directly about how the CHIPS and Science Act will lower costs, create jobs, strengthen supply chains, and continue to build an innovation economy right here in NJ-11. I welcomed Senator Booker to EDGE NJ in Denville for a town hall focused on LGBTQ+ issues and the fight to protect equal rights. Listen into our conversation about supporting the LGBTQ+ community here. 

I teamed up with Department of Labor Secretary Marty Walsh to host a labor town hall at the Bricklayers Union Hall in Fairfield to hear directly from our unions. Secretary (and former Mayor of Boston) Walsh and I might not agree on sports teams, but we definitely agree on the importance of supporting the labor unions that have made our nation stronger and more resilient. 

Just this week I held a telephone town hall for seniors with federal, state, and county experts who provided tips and resources for fraud and scam prevention. Thank you to the over 2,500 people who joined us!

Anjuli Ramos of the NJ Sierra Club and I sat down in beautiful Loantaka Brook Reservation to talk about how the Inflation Reduction Act is going to protect our environment, lower costs for New Jerseyans, make our community healthier, and invest in our kids. Watch our full conversation here!

At Burns & McDonnell in Morristown, I hosted an employee town hall and met with leadership to learn more about their critical role in NJ’s clean energy transition and how I can continue to support them with legislation like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

It is always a pleasure to welcome local officials like Stanhope Mayor Zdichocki and Dr. Flowers to my District Office in Parsippany to talk about improving accessibility to critical medications for New Jerseyans.

My office is always open to constituents and it was wonderful to meet with some of the people my casework team has helped this year. I spoke with Jeffry about how my office helped him obtain a Navy Medallion from the VA to honor his father. Standing With Ukraine

I visited the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of New Jersey to talk about my trip to Ukraine in July and answer questions from the community. While in Ukraine, I told President Zelensky about the incredible support that he has from our entire community in North Jersey. There is no better example of that support than the recent donation by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office, Sheriff's Office, and the County Commissioners of bulletproof vests to Ukraine. I am proud my office was able to help navigate the federal issues around making this possible.

At the beginning of August, I helped break ground on the new Portal Bridge! This project, made possible by federal transportation funding that I’ve championed over the past three years, is going to make a tangible difference to the quality of life and economic opportunities of New Jersey families and will have a significant positive environmental impact in North Jersey.

Small businesses are critical to our communities and the NJ-11 economy. This summer, I visited small businesses throughout the district to learn more about how federal programs I fought for helped our small businesses recover from the pandemic. During my small business walk with Mayor Scarpelli in Nutley, I was so proud to hear about how PPP and EIDL recovery loans helped these businesses stay open and how the community has come together to support them.

Teaming Up With The Morris County Chamber Of Commerce

I joined the Morris County Chamber of Commerce today for my annual Washington Update. We discussed recently passed legislation like the CHIPS & Science Act and Inflation Reduction Act that will strengthen our supply chains, move manufacturing back onshore, and bring down costs. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I also highlighted the provisions we passed in the defense budget that will support Picatinny Arsenal - one of the largest employers in NJ-11. 

With state and local funding I secured in the American Rescue Plan, the Morris County Small Business Grant Program has helped hundreds of nonprofits and small businesses like Millie’s House in Montville keep their doors open and rebound from COVID. Thanks to the Morris County Commissioners and the Morris Chamber of Commerce for partnering to make this program happen. You can learn more about Millie’s House and the program here!

At the Morris County Women in Business Roundtable in Florham Park last month, I was inspired by the women in NJ-11 who continue to break glass ceilings. When women support each other, incredible things happen.

Celebrating 75 Years Of Indian Independence

It was wonderful to join the Indian American community in Livingston to celebrate 75 years of Indian Independence! Thank you to the Livingston Town Council and Sanskriti NJ for hosting this event that honors both democracy and diversity in our community.

Labor Day in NJ-11

As we say goodbye to summer, I am so grateful for all of the opportunities we have had to gather as a community across NJ-11 and these past couple of weeks were no exception.

The Riverdale Labor Day Street Fair is a wonderful annual event in NJ-11 and it is great to see it back in full swing. Thanks to Mayor Carelli for welcoming me and to the NJ Girl Scouts Steel Magnolias FTC team, along with your coach Councilman Desai, for showing me one of your innovations up close.
