John, the other week Katie took the time to surprise some of our grassroots supporters with a thank you call.
One supporter asked Katie if she gets tired of fundraising. Her answer—no! She knows that the people who support our campaign are committed to protecting our democracy and improving our country, and she’s so appreciative of your support.
But one thing that makes our fundraising really different from other candidates’ is that Katie doesn’t take money from corporate PACs, lobbyists, or executives at Wall Street Banks, Big Pharma, or Big Oil companies. Bottom line: Katie’s voice and vote in Congress isn’t for sale.
Ever since the 2010 Supreme Court Citizens United decision, money in politics has skyrocketed. Katie’s fighting to reduce the influence of dark money and corporate PACs, and is one of just around a dozen Members of Congress who reject lobbyist money. But in one of California’s most competitive House races, we still need resources to run ads and reach voters. Katie is only able to compete in this race because of contributions from normal people.
