Dear John,
Now that members of Congress have reconvened after their summer recess, threats to earned benefits have also resumed. In fact, at a time when millions of older Americans are struggling to stretch their monthly Social Security check to cover the high cost of housing, gas and food, some lawmakers have proposed harmful changes to Social Security and Medicare.
This fall, we need to take a firm stand for Social Security and Medicare — benefits that over a lifetime are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to you and your family. Specifically, I need you to remind your congressional lawmakers, many of whom are running for re-election, that “sunsetting” Social Security and Medicare and slashing earned benefits to pay for deficit reduction are NOT plans that voters like you support.
That’s why I’m counting on you to sign our Urgent Petition to Congress today, addressed to your members of Congress, to protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare. It’s clear your earned benefits are on the ballot this November so we must ensure your lawmakers see that thousands of their constituents have signed onto this petition. The more petitions in their inbox, the more seriously they will take this issue!
With your support, the National Committee continues to raise unprecedented awareness about the rights and needs of workers and retirees — and your signed and submitted petition is a key part of our campaign. Please take action now to defend and improve your earned benefits!
With so much at stake in the weeks ahead, we are devoting critical resources to passing legislation in Congress to improve the solvency of the Social Security and Medicare Trust Funds and boost your earned benefits. And we will continue to fight efforts by powerful fiscal hawks in Congress to ram through major changes to your earned benefits!
We’re aiming for at least 50,000 signatures to make lawmakers sit up and take notice — so please help us reach this critical goal. Please sign our urgent petition today!
Sincerely,
|
