Friends,

Tonight, I will uphold my oath and stand up for the rule of law by voting in favor of both articles of impeachment.

I never ran for Congress thinking I would vote to impeach the President.

I ran to represent Michigan’s 11th District to prevent our seniors from having to choose whether to afford their prescriptions or food on their table, to protect Michigan’s best-in-class workforce and give our local manufacturers a fair shake, and to finally pass pension protections and wage increases that help our hard working families get ahead.

I ran because I believed in the potential of this community.

But when President Trump jeopardized our national security for his own personal and political benefit, it became clear that his dangerous abuse of power could not go unchecked.

I am saddened by the actions of the President that have led our country to this moment and faced us with this solemn duty to defend our Constitution.

But we must uphold the integrity of our democracy so that future generations can continue to build upon the successes we’re working toward today.

Friends, it is important to me that you know I will continue to work with anyone to fight for Southeast Michigan. We will push forward with our values of hard work, honesty, and integrity to get the job done.

Tomorrow is a new day.
