John, I cannot tell you how grateful I am.
In just the nine hours since I emailed this morning, we've already raised $17,459 to help expand our no-cost, lifesaving gun violence prevention programs. I will never get my beautiful butterfly Dylan back, but I know that because of the generosity of people like you today, many other children's lives will be saved.
With only a few hours left until my birthday is over, will you help us get to $30,000? Every single dollar we raise today will help protect more children from gun violence. So please, will you donate now?

Thank you to everyone who has donated or shared this request, and for giving me the best birthday gift ever: the ability to honor my baby boy by keeping more children safe.
With love,
Nicole Hockley (Dylan's mom)

Subject: my birthday
John, today is my birthday, but those close to me know I choose not to celebrate it anymore.
My birthday falls four days after Dec. 14, the day of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting. My first birthday after the tragedy was also the day I saw my 6-year-old son, Dylan, for the final time in his casket. I was able to hold his little hand prior to his cremation.
Though I am grateful I had the chance to say goodbye to my beautiful butterfly, it is always what I remember most on my birthday. So while I don't ignore it entirely, my birthday is no longer a day I prefer to draw attention to.
But this year, I want to use my birthday to draw attention to Sandy Hook Promise's work – and to the opportunity we have to protect children like Dylan from gun violence. Every day that we hear of another intervention, I know Dylan's death is saving someone else. And every day we hear of another life taken by preventable gun violence, I know we need to do more.
So please, will you donate now to help us protect more children like Dylan from gun violence? It's not just an important mission to me – it's now my life's mission.
Please donate $10, or as much as you can, to Sandy Hook Promise now. Your donation will help us do everything we possibly can to expand our programs and prevent future school shootings.

More than 11 million students and educators have learned to recognize warning signs of gun violence and intervene to save lives through our prevention programs. We've had a tremendous impact and averted multiple school shooting threats.
We never charge schools or youth organizations to use our programs and services – we deliver everything free of charge, thanks to donations from supporters like you. And we cannot stop now – not with so many more precious lives on the line.
Being able to train more students and protect more children like Dylan from gun violence is the greatest gift I can imagine receiving this birthday. Thank you – your support truly means the world to me.
With love,
Nicole Hockley (Dylan's mom)
