Familias Reunidas:

Dropping by to share some exciting news: We freed another asylum-seeker from Peru! Esteban is the 119th recipient of our Familias Reunidas Bond Fund Program. He was fleeing persecution in his home country and was incarcerated in the Imperial Regional Detention Center for three months. Esteban has now been happily reunited with his family thanks to your generous donations.

Shelter Aid:

Our friends at Volviendo a la Patria shelter served up some delicious birria to our migrant siblings courtesy of your generous donations! This shelter houses various migrants, including a few Haitians who had never tried this dish before. Thank you for your continued support of our Shelter Aid program helping them, and over a dozen shelters in Tijuana with food, rent, utilities, and more.

Title 42 Exemptions
We are so grateful to be able to continue with Title 42 exemptions, helping present asylum seekers at the border with the assistance and coordination of Psicologos Sin Fronteras and our supported shelter network.

Thanks to your support we assisted these two Russian asylum seekers from Jardin de las Mariposas shelter, who provides housing and assistance to members of the LGBTQI+ migrant community, as well as HIV+ persons. Many of the people who have been presented at the border under Title 42 exemptions and are part of the LGBTQI+ community have been identified through this shelter.

The owners of Eres Una Maravilla are Paulina and Alvaro. They are one of our longest standing fundraising partners through Instagram, designating proceeds from various of their beautiful jewlery designs to support Border Angels.

News Spotlight:

Rumors continue to mislead migrants about asylum opportunities
Many migrants in Tijuana are trying to gain access to shelters believing the facilities can clear the way for asylum, a migrant activist south of the border says. At the Movimiento Juventud 2000 shelter, more than 100 migrants are said to be waiting in line and are camping out outside the facility.

The person in charge of the shelter and migrant activist José María García Lara says the rumor, about how his shelter and others offer a path to asylum in the United States, is false. “We have tried to explain that lawyers are in charge of paperwork,” he said. “All we can do is reach out to attorneys and if they decide to show up, only they can help those at the facility.”

García Lara stated that as of now, there are about 5,000 migrants in shelters across Tijuana, a figure that has gone up in recent weeks.
