New CNN FlashDocs documentary highlights the life and career of tennis superstar Serena Williams |
As the US Open comes to a close, CNN celebrates one of the sport's all-time greats: Serena Williams. She is one of the most decorated women in tennis — winning 23 singles Grand Slam titles, four Olympic Gold Medals and earning nearly $100 million in prize money. Her three-decades-long career turned Williams into a global force and a household name.
Earlier this month, she announced her retirement, citing her desire to focus on her career as a venture capitalist and expanding her family.
The CNN FlashDocs unit's hour-long special, Serena Williams: On Her Terms, chronicles her early beginnings in Compton, California, to her epic ascent to international prominence, exploring the key moments on and off the court that shaped the athlete, woman, and mother.

In Memoriam: CNN to honor the late Queen Elizabeth with a special on-air rebroadcast of The Windsors |
Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning British monarch whose rule spanned seven decades, died on Thursday at the age of 96. The Queen's oldest son Charles has now become King Charles III.
Elizabeth ascended to the throne in 1952 after the death of her father, King George VI. She oversaw the last throes of the British empire, weathered global upheaval and domestic scandal, and dramatically modernized the monarchy.
She ruled over the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms and became one of the most globally recognizable women in contemporary history.
Messages of condolences started pouring in from around the world, underscoring the global impact the Queen had made during her 70-year reign.
"Queen Elizabeth II was the rock on which modern Britain was built," the new British Prime Minister Liz Truss said. "Our country has grown and flourished under her reign."
President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden called the Queen a "steadying presence."
"Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was more than a monarch. She defined an era," they said in a statement.
