John: As a representative and now a senator, I've taken the Amtrak home from Washington countless times – and I'm not alone. For years, President Joe Biden and I rode the rails back to Wilmington together every day. That might not sound noteworthy on its face, but please, can you give me a minute to explain why those trips home mean so much to me and why I need your support?

When I moved to Delaware, right after getting out of the Navy, Joe was one of the first people I met. We connected instantly over our shared values, our love for family, and our fierce commitment to public service. In the decades since, he's been an ally, a colleague, a mentor, and a friend.
When Joe suggested I run for Congress and be his partner in Washington, I knew I couldn't say no. Once I made it to Capitol Hill, the two of us got right to work, delivering for Delaware and families everywhere. We spent long hours working on legislation that would protect our planet, reduce costs for American families, and fix our failing health care system.
And after a day's work at the Capitol, we would board the Amtrak together – alongside our constituents. You see, on a daily commute, you get to learn a lot about the real issues that our communities are facing. We listened to stories from passengers – regular commuters, folks on business trips, and even families on vacation. We got to know the union employees who took our tickets each day, and they told us about the issues they were facing.
Joe and I went home on the Amtrak every day not only to be able to tuck our kids in at night, but also to remember that our purpose in Washington is to fight for our community, listen to the folks we represent, and find real solutions to the problems facing Americans.
Even though Joe isn't taking the Amtrak with me these days, the two of us are still delivering change for the families who need it. From the infrastructure deal to the Inflation Reduction Act, I'm immensely proud to partner with Joe on legislation that is truly helping us move our country forward.
But there is so much left to do, and we won't be able to accomplish any of it if we let Mitch McConnell take back the Senate. That's why I have to ask: Can I count on your grassroots donation of $5 or whatever you can spare tonight so that I can help defend our Senate majority and keep on fighting with Joe to deliver for your family? Please, John, I can't do this without you by my side.

Thank you so much for your support – and if we ever cross paths on the Amtrak, know I look forward to hearing your story, too.
– Tom
