Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) told reporters Wednesday that the Senate will vote on legislation to protect same-sex marriage rights by the end of September.
The Respect for Marriage Act would codify the right to same-sex and interracial marriages. The legislation would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and require all states to recognize marriages that were legal where they were performed.
