Congresswoman Bass is a proud daughter of Los Angeles. Her interest in community activism was sparked while watching the Civil Rights Movement unfold during her childhood. Bass founded the Community Coalition in 1990, which empowers future African-American and Latino community leaders to work against substance abuse, poverty, and crime in South Los Angeles.

In 2011, she was elected to represent her CA district in Washington. Now, she can see more pressing issues at home – for example, 40,000 people sleep on the streets of Los Angeles every night. As mayor, we are confident that Bass will work for her community and find solutions.
