Dear John,

Last month, Millennial Action Project (MAP) held our sixth annual Future Summit in Denver, Colorado — the nation’s largest bipartisan convening of young state legislators. I am so proud to share that nearly 50 lawmakers from across the country came together to affirm their intention to work across the political spectrum to create a more functional democracy.

The legislators in attendance represent a cross-section of the more than 1,600 Millennial and Gen Z legislators within MAP’s State Future Caucus Network. All year round, these lawmakers work together through one of 31 state Future Caucuses to create space for bipartisan policymaking and dialogue. Future Summit is a celebration of – and a catalyst for — that work, and it never fails to leave me inspired.

Governor Jared Polis opened the weekend by welcoming the MAP community to Colorado, and remarked that the work of MAP and the Future Summit “is exactly what we need in this country.” Throughout the weekend, other speakers shared leadership lessons from history, made the case for cross-sector collaboration, and facilitated policy conversations on topics like strengthening democracy, criminal justice reform, energy and the environment, and the future of work. Future Summit is only a few days in a multi-year movement to build a new political culture rooted in collaboration, diversity, and empathy. Millennials and Gen Z are the largest generations in American history and have the opportunity to redefine how America governs. Collectively, we have the opportunity to change the way we solve problems.

The more we create these powerful coalitions, the more we can change the narrative about what's possible in our democracy. We couldn’t do it without your support. Let’s get to work!

Onward,
