Texas Pro-Life Law Saves 40,000 Babies in One Year From Abortion

By: Zachary Mettler

One year ago, Texas’ Heartbeat Bill took effect. The bill prohibits abortions if a preborn baby has a heartbeat, which generally occurs around six weeks gestation.

Since the bill went into effect, an estimated 40,000 lives of preborn babies have been saved.

This is very encouraging news and a tribute to the great work of pro-life activists in The Lone Star State and around the country.

Now, it’s important to understand that these 40,000 preborn babies have been saved in one year alone – in just one state.

California: Buy Electric Cars – But Don’t Charge Them During Heat Waves

By: Jeff Johnston

California is currently baking under a heat wave, with triple-digit temperatures and excessive heat warnings from Northern California all the way south to San Diego. The state is expected to stay overheated past Labor Day.

As a result, the California Independent System Operator (CISO), which oversees the state’s electrical grid, announced a heat warning “Flex Alert” asking users to limit energy consumption each evening, “when the grid is most stressed from higher demand and less solar energy.”

The alert suggests consumers “conserve power by setting thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, if health permits, avoiding use of major applicances [sic] and turning off unnecessary lights.”

It also asks consumers to not charge their electric cars in the evening.

As critics of the state’s automobile and energy policies pointed out, the timing of the CISO alert was especially ironic, as it came less than a week after the state doubled down on eliminating gas-powered cars.

Federal Judge Blocks California Law Forcing Doctors to Participate in Assisted Suicides

By: Bruce Hausknecht

A federal judge has ruled that a California law requiring all doctors, even those with conscience or ethical objections, to participate in the assisted suicides of their terminally ill patients violates the free speech provisions of the First Amendment.

California’s assisted suicide law, passed in 2016, originally allowed doctors to refuse to participate in any manner with patients’ requests for help in ending their lives. However, in 2021, the California legislature amended the law so that even if a doctor refused a patient’s request to assist with their suicide, the doctor’s “refusal” itself became an official part of the required “two-doctor” consultation paper trail allowing the patient to ultimately die by another doctor’s hands.

Christian doctors argued in a First Amendment lawsuit that being forced to participate in the process, even via the medical paper trail that ends in an assisted suicide, violates the religious conscience and/or ethical concerns of many California medical practitioners.

That, according to U.S. District Judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha, likely violates the First Amendment rights of objecting doctors, justifying a preliminary injunction blocking enforcement of the law’s provisions against the group that brought the lawsuit, the Christian Medical and Dental Association (CMDA), and its members.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Now Offering Abortions in Direct Conflict with State Pro-Life Laws and Federal Law Prohibiting Such Action

By: Nicole Hunt

For the first time in its history, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is now offering abortions to veterans and their families at VA hospitals, effective immediately.

The VA set aside traditional rulemaking procedures when it issued an interim final rule last week, citing an “immediate detrimental impact on the lives and health” of veterans and their families if they are not permitted to access abortion services from the VA.

Under these new rulemaking procedures, the interim final rule goes into effect right away while the VA accepts comments on this proposed rule change for 30 days. Following the 30-day comment period, the VA Secretary will review comments and announce a final rule that may or may not include changes based on comments submitted.

According to the rule, the VA will provide abortions to veterans and their family members if the mother’s health is at risk, the mother’s life is threatened, and in cases of rape or incest.

The 40-page rule is very clear that this policy change is a reaction to pro-life states moving to restrict abortion in the wake of the reversal of Roe by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Opponents of the rule argue that the action is illegal under current federal law and regulation.

New York Yankee Aaron Judge, His Adoption and the Bible Verse Shaping His Record-Setting Season & Career

By: Paul Batura

With 27 games remaining in the regular season, including a doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday, the Yankees’ slugger Aaron Judge is on pace to hit 65 home runs – an American League record and tops in Major League history if you discount the steroid-era feats of Barry Bonds (73), Mark McGuire (70), and Sammy Sosa (63).

Measuring 6’7” and weighing in at 282 pounds, Judge is colossal in physical size and stature – but stands even taller in reputation as one of baseball’s good guys – a man who prioritizes his Christian faith and credits the love and care of his family for his baseball success.

Drafted by the Yankees in 2013, Aaron Judge is now in his seventh Major League Season. Not since the days of Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris in the 1960s have the Bronx Bombers had someone with such consistent, explosive power.

Beyond the standout’s sheer muscle and mass, what’s behind his prowess and accomplishments?

“My parents are amazing, they’ve taught me so many lessons,’’ Judge has said. “I honestly can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done for me.’’

Born and raised in the small town of Linden, Calif., Aaron’s parents, Wayne and Patty, adopted him at birth. His older biological brother, John, was adopted at the same time.
