1. ELECTION UPDATES:
Absentee voting begins, iVoterGuide is released, and judicial
endorsements are now available
Today, the NC State Board of Elections must make absentee
ballots available for those voters who have already requested them.
Any registered voter can request, receive, and vote with a mail-in
absentee ballot. All you need to do is register online here, or on paper here.
You can even track your absentee-by-mail ballot through the mail via a
tool the NCSBE is providing called BallotTrax.
As we get closer to the election, the team at NC Values will
be releasing a number of tools and resources as part of our NC Values
Voter Toolkit. In addition to the newly released iVoterGuide, we will
also be sharing with you a number of our official NC Values
endorsements in the upcoming weeks. First among them are our recently
released 2022 General Election judicial candidate
endorsements.
We encourage you to check them out here, and support these
fair and qualified candidates as best you are able.
Finally, this week the Heritage Foundation has published the
Education Freedom Report
Card, to serve as a guide for assessing education
freedom in each state. It's an awesome resource.
2. CALL-TO-ACTION: Title
IX: Less than 4 days left to comment on Biden erasing women.
For over 50 years, Title IX has
helped young women access fair and competitive sports, safe and
private facilities, and educational and financial opportunities. Maybe
you were even one of them! Now, the Biden Administration is set on
redefining what Title IX means by sex to include sexual orientation,
gender identity, and more. There are less than 4 days to provide
public feedback before they make a decision. Would you consider submitting a
personalized response?
To check out our own organization's
submitted comments, and possibly use it to help draft your own, click here.
3. BLOOMBERG: GOP’s Tillis
Expects Senate Passage of Marriage Equality Bill
“Senator Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, said he
expects there will be enough support from his party to pass a marriage
equality bill this month. Democrats have not yet attracted the 10
Republican senators they need to pass the bill in the evenly divided
chamber, but negotiators are making progress, Tillis said.”
Would you consider taking a minute to click here to contact Senators
Burr & Tillis and ask them to vote against the
pro-polygamy bill?
4. CHRISTIAN POST: Biden Admin.
will allow abortions at VA hospitals despite state bans after Dobbs
decision
“The Biden administration has announced its intention to
provide abortion procedures at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
medical facilities for eligible veterans and beneficiaries, including
in states where the procedure has recently become illegal.“
5. YOU’RE INVITED: Learn more
about one of the schooling models available in NC: classical
education
In addition to different types of school choice options (such as
public, private, charter, and homeschooling), there are also a number
of different educational models available to parents. Among them is
the classical education approach, as taken by institutions like Thales
Academy in Raleigh, NC.
On October 7th, from
8am-1:30pm, Thales Academy will be hosting their Fall Classical
Summit, which consists of a day of engaging lectures, seminars, and
workshops for teachers and parents in a classical school setting. If
you are interested in learning about the classical approach, it’s
usage of the Western canon, and more, we invite you to click here to
register and attend their event.
(Queen Elizabeth II, the longest
reigning monarch in British history, died Sept. 8 at age 96. She led
by example. Our prayers go with the royal family and the people of
England).
WEEKLY PRAYER: FAMILY
LORD, we cry out to you as Father. You are a model of the love,
mercy, and authority of the perfect parent. We thank you for modeling
for us what every parent should strive for, and for creating this
wonderful institution called family.
LORD, we thank you for creating us with a basic nature designed
to not be alone. You made us to desire the intimacy of relationships,
and it is here where we experience joys indescribable: the joys of
marriage, the joys of having children; the joys of seeing our children
have children. What a blessing and mercy you gave us in the family! In
it we find our first teachers, our first guardians, and our first
authorities.
LORD, we recognize how deeply you love your children, and how
deeply it pains you when they go astray. Alongside our adoration and
thanksgiving, we pray in confession—as individuals and as members of
larger communities—over any sins we may have committed that undermine
your beloved institution. Forgive us when we endanger your institution
through selfishness and arrogance. Forgive our communities and nation
for attempting to redefine some of the most basic and deepest parts of
being human—being made male and female, having lifelong marriage vows
and responsibilities, and having parental rights over educating one's
children.
"Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved,
compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13
bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another,
forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must
forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything
together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your
hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing
one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do,
in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God the Father through him." (Colossians 3:12-17)
Amen
