There has been a lot of talk about the FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago, including calls for violence and to defund the FBI.

So I thought it important to reach out and explain why every American should be extraordinarily thankful that the FBI recovered the materials from Trump.

During my time in the military, I held clearance to handle some of the more sensitive materials we had, including those marked Top Secret / SCI. Sources (people) and methods (expensive) — to be protected.

Any materials with those classifications have the potential to inflict a great amount of damage to the United States, in the wrong hands. Not only would your military career be over if you stole those materials, you could at least be looking at a very long time in prison.

It strains all credulity to argue Donald Trump didn’t know he took TS/SCI material. These are materials that very few can see, and even then, must view them in secure facilities. They’re not papers in the bottom of your junk drawer.

We still do not know if these were nuclear documents, or something else. But it doesn’t matter. TS/SCI classification is deadly serious, and Donald Trump taking them makes him a national security threat.

I am proud to be part of an organization — VoteVets — working to hold accountable those who have enabled Trump.
