These 3 besties — and Afghan refugees — will change the world one day.

Arifa, Hadisa and Zahra (pictured above) fled Afghanistan shortly after the regime change in August of 2021 and came to the U.S. They now study at Arizona State University, skateboard, practice taekwondo — and have big dreams for the future.

Zhara, who is studying law, told us:
"Here there are lots of opportunities for women. So as a woman, you can achieve all your dreams."

"I want to help and support my family and also those girls in Afghanistan. I just want to help them in a way that's useful for them and give hope for them because I am here. At least I have this opportunity and somewhere I can raise my voice."
Now, a year after coming to the U.S., these three are rebuilding their lives, settling into new homes with the help of the IRC, and have been granted scholarships to complete their education. Arifa is studying cybersecurity, Hadisa, software engineering, and Zahra, law.

These three young women were among the tens of thousands of people who rushed to evacuate last year after the shift in power in Afghanistan, and thanks to IRC supporters like you, the IRC was able to step into action to help.

I find their story so inspiring and I hope you're inspired too! Because this is what happens when people like you come together to welcome refugees.
