Leisha* lives in a small apartment with her husband, three children, and niece. When life became difficult in their country, her brother-in-law abandoned his daughter and returned to his homeland. Leisha refused to leave the little girl on the streets and took her into their family.

Two years ago Leisha’s husband was injured and has been unable to find work. The family cannot afford medical care for him. They also cannot afford electricity for their apartment. Their children work on the streets selling tissue boxes to help with basic expenses.

When local Unto^® team members visited the family, their apartment was completely dark. They talked to Leisha over the glow of flashlights. Through tears she explained their situation,

I wish my kids could have a normal life. I don’t wish for them to work, but what can we do? Our situation led us to this, and it breaks my heart.

Before leaving our local staff team provided Leisha and her family with meals and directed them to a clinic that could help her husband. They were so grateful!

She told our staff members,

Today you made my day; thank you for coming; thank you for the food. You have no idea how much this will help us. This means a lot to us.

The team also had the opportunity to share about eternal hope, and Leisha joyfully made a decision to follow Jesus.

It takes just 13 cents to provide a meal for someone like Leisha and her family who struggle to survive — and to give them the opportunity to hear about Jesus.
