Dear John,
?
Our people aren't rich. When tragedy strikes, they can't just write a check. None of them is dropping a million dollars of their own money into the race. They rely on their friends and families. They also rely on us. And we deliver at an average donation of $30.43. (You can make your general election donation now, if you want.)
?
What's more: our candidates and their families are making real sacrifices even in non-election years. Sick parents. Foster kids. Cancer. Public service and mutual aid work. Too little pay for too much work. Journeys of recovery from chronic illness. Not to mention the sadness that comes from watching your state robbed blind by establishment politicians on a daily basis.
?
Add to all that the rigors and indignities of a campaign -- fake friends, personal threats, long hours, trolls, imposter syndrome -- and it's enough to push people to their breaking points.
?
?
Thanks for all you do to add a little hope in these tough times. Thanks to you, we've got 41 Hometown Heroes helping folks get food and housing and medicine and support statewide. We've got a historic slate of 9 candidates (4 D's, 4 I's, and 1 R) coming together across race and party lines in Charleston. We've got 25 more candidates running bravely around the state; unapologetically pro-labor, pro-choice, and pro-cannabis.
?
2 months to go til election day...

In solidarity,
