Instacart acquires e-commerce platform Rosie

Instacart has announced its acquisition of e-commerce platform Rosie, a technology company geared toward independent and local grocers. The acquisition is Instacart's fourth this year, with the company also having acquired Eversight, Caper AI and FoodStorm ahead of its highly anticipated initial public offering.

Shifting ocean shipping trends result in lower rates

Ocean shippers brought back-to-school and holiday goods to the US earlier this year to avoid potential supply chain bottlenecks, resulting in lower rates during the normal peak period. The Freightos Baltic Index estimates it now costs $5,400 to move a 40-foot container from China to the West Coast of the US, a 60% drop from January.

Companies that benefit from upselling -- racking up nearly 30% of sales in some cases -- say suites of products, loyalty programs and extended payment programs are the top three ways to get results, according to a HubSpot 2022 Sales Strategy Report. The research also shows that just 27% of salespeople down-sell, 79% cross-sell and 88% upsell.

The "quiet quitting" phenomenon may have more to do with poor management than lazy workers, writes Liz Kislik, who recommends having "a series of heart-to-heart conversations, in which both managers and employees" lay out their expectations. "Everyone expects that some aspects of their job will be annoying, but nobody wants to feel frustrated, resentful, or ill-used all the time," Kislik writes.
