Queen Elizabeth II Passes Away After 70 Years on the Throne

Financial Times: Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-serving monarch, has died, leaving her people in mourning but reflecting on a life of duty in which she bound the country together through 70 years of momentous change. Her death, at the age of 96, was announced by Buckingham Palace at 6.30pm on Thursday. It marked a watershed moment in the life of the nation, leaving it without its “matriarch.” The Prince of Wales was at her bedside at Balmoral, her beloved castle in the Scottish Highlands, along with other members of the royal family. At the moment of her passing, her son became King Charles III (Financial Times). Dr. Albert Mohler: Elizabeth was only 25 years old when she became queen in 1952. She received the news in Kenya, where she and her husband, Philip, Duke of Windsor, were on a royal visit. (Philip would be made prince consort in 1957.) The young woman flew to Kenya as a princess but landed back in London as queen. A new age had begun. Queen Elizabeth’s famous pledge, made on her 21st birthday in 1947, set the tone of her reign: “I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.” We now know that her service was long, indeed the second-longest of any known monarch in history (World News).

Sanctuary City, Washington DC, Declares National Emergency Over Illegal Immigrants

Spencer Brown: The mayor of our nation’s capital, Mayor Muriel Bowser, declared a public emergency on Thursday over the number of illegal immigrants heading to Washington, DC in the latest hypocritical turn by Democrat-run cities and states when they confront the impact of their policies. So far, the nation’s capital has seen around 9,500 illegal immigrants arrive since April — apparently enough to cause Bowser to declare the public emergency. Meanwhile “7,000 to 8,000 immigrants” are illegally crossing into Texas from Mexico each day (Townhall). Reporter Stephanie Ramirez: @MayorBowser announces a Declaration of Public Emergency to respond to the migrant situation in D.C. Also announced plans to start an Office of Migrant Services (Twitter). DC Councilmember Brianne Nadeau stated Texas and Arizona have turned D.C. into a border town. Julio Rosas: DC Council Member @BrianneKNadeau blamed the governors of Texas and Arizona for creating this “crisis” and said they turned DC into a border town (Twitter).

California Teacher Boasts About “Queer Library” Featuring Books on Orgies, BDSM

Fox News: A California teacher in the Capistrano school district posted about a “queer library” in her classroom that was filled with over 100 books – some of which contained sex imagery, information on orgies, sex parties and BDSM. The teacher at San Juan Hills High School, identified on the shool’s website as Danielle Serio, is known as “Flint.” Flint posted repeatedly on TikTok about books in the “queer library” and said it was available to students and has been active for five years (Fox News). Washington Examiner: In a recent TikTok, Serio interviewed Dr. Manoj Mahindrakar, the principal of her school, about his thoughts surrounding the library. “In my educational experience, books are always a good thing, and any books that support our students, I’m for,” Mahindrakar said in the video (Washington Examiner).

Britain’s New PM Lifts Ban on Fracking

Financial Times: Liz Truss has vowed to lift a three-year ban on fracking in England, claiming that this “could get gas flowing in as soon as six months”, defying advice from her predecessor Boris Johnson that such a move would not solve the energy crisis. The new prime minister’s decision to press ahead with fracking was part of a wider package of energy supply reforms announced on Thursday aimed at cutting Britain’s reliance on imported gas. It includes more drilling for oil and gas in the North Sea, the acceleration of Britain’s long-delayed nuclear program and more renewables (Financial Times). GB News: ‘We will make sure that the UK is a net energy exporter by 2040.’ Prime Minister Liz Truss has said the ban on fracking in England will end, meaning production of domestic shale gas could begin in as little as six months (Twitter). Townhall: For the next two years, household heating and electrical bills will not exceed $2,872 per year, she said. They were set to increase 80 percent in October due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, hitting $4,000 per year. The measure is expected to cost $115 billion (Townhall).

DOJ Appeals Decision to Appoint Special Master Over Documents Taken From Trump

Katie Pavlich: The Department of Justice has officially filed a motion to appeal a ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon appointing a special master to review documents seized from Mar-a-Lago by the FBI (Townhall). Wall Street Journal: Minutes after filing its notice of appeal, the Justice Department filed a separate motion asking Judge Cannon to put part of her Monday decision on hold. In that filing, prosecutors asked that the Justice Department be allowed to use documents bearing classification markings in its investigation, and said it wasn’t asking to continue using the thousands of other records that had been seized (Wall Street Journal).

Kamala Harris Calls on Church Leaders to Advance Abortion Rights

Houston Chronicle: Vice President Kamala Harris traveled to Houston on Thursday, urging people of faith to help lead the country through “unsettled times” and defend its democracy. Speaking at the National Baptist Convention, held at the Hilton Americas-Houston downtown, Harris told roughly 2,000 people in attendance they must fight for light over darkness (Houston Chronicle). Life News: Harris defended abortion as part of her talk. She criticized Texas lawmakers for passing laws that protect unborn babies from abortion, saying women should be allowed to “make decisions about their own future.” “These ideals now hang in the balance, and in this moment then we count on the strength and conviction of our faith leaders to help lead us forward,” Harris said. She attempted to portray her pro-abortion beliefs as Christian by bringing up how she went to church as a child and studied the Bible. She also implied that killing unborn babies in abortions is moral when she challenged the Baptist pastors to fight for the “light” over darkness (Life News).

Ukraine's Offensive Has Russia on the Run in Kharkiv

New York Post: Ukrainian forces surprised occupying Russians with a one-two punch Thursday, pushing deep into enemy territory to open a second front in Kyiv’s counterattack. Ukrainian authorities announced the liberation of 20 villages in the northeast, outside Kharkiv, as the military pushed for the occupied city of Izyum — all while continuing a fierce fight for Kherson in the south. Oleksiy Hromov, a deputy chief with the general staff of the armed forces of Ukraine, said Thursday that his nation’s forces — pushing toward the Donbas from Kharkiv — had penetrated more than 30 miles beyond Russia’s defensive line (New York Post). Jason Jay Smart: Balakliya, Ukraine is freed from Russian occupation (Twitter).

US Announces Another Massive Aid Package for Ukraine Bringing Total up to $15 Billion

Wall Street Journal: Senior U.S. officials visiting Ukraine and Germany announced $675 million in new military assistance to Ukraine and $2 billion in additional funding for that country and other nations in the region, as Kyiv launches offensives to try to retake territory captured by Russian troops this year. The military aid will include rockets for multiple-launch rocket systems, four 105 mm howitzers with 36,000 rounds, high-speed missiles to target enemy radar, 5,000 antitank missiles, 1,000 antitank mines, 100 Humvees, 1.5 million rounds of ammunition for small arms, 50 armored medical-treatment vehicles, night-vision equipment, small arms and grenade launchers, a State Department spokesman said (Wall Street Journal). Fox News: It is unclear how much of the $2 billion announced by Blinken today will be allocated just for Ukraine. But according to the Associated Press the White House has provided more than $15 billion to Ukraine since President Biden took office (Fox News).

US Funded Study Claims Physics is Racist Because Students Are Rewarded for Being Correct

Daily Wire: A $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation funded a 22-page “study” that used Critical Race Theory to argue that physics was racist, in part because it rewards students for getting the right answer and uses whiteboards. Climate Czar John Kerry’s Carbon Footprint is 300 Times That of the Average American

Washington Free Beacon: In his role as President Joe Biden’s climate czar, John Kerry has flown more than 180,000 miles—flights that emitted more than 9.5 million pounds of carbon, a Washington Free Beacon analysis found. The Free Beacon reviewed 75 of Kerry’s official travel announcements from March 2021 to July 2022, which show Kerry has flown roughly 180,100 miles—the equivalent of traveling around the world more than seven times—to discuss climate change with various world leaders. Planes on average produce 53.3 pounds of carbon dioxide per mile traveled, according to carbon emissions modeling website BlueSkyModel, meaning Kerry’s flights have produced 9.54 million pounds, or 4,772 tons, of carbon—roughly 300 times the average American’s carbon footprint (Washington Free Beacon).
