Breaking from NBC News: Nearly 700,000 will lose food stamps with USDA work requirement change
The Trump administration’s idea of poverty alleviation is to punish poor people for being poor. Its latest punishment is take away food stamps (SNAP) for nearly 700,000 Americans.
Let’s be clear: There is no economic benefit in doing this. There is no moral benefit in doing this. President Trump and his cadre of heartless lackeys are cruelly punishing people.
The Trump administration says it wants to save money. Yeah right. Give 1.5 trillion dollars of tax cuts to the rich and big corporations and save money on poor people so they can’t eat. Scrooge would be proud.
They also say that if people aren’t working they shouldn’t get food assistance. So how are they supposed to eat? We’re talking about people struggling to make ends meet, people who live in communities where it’s still tough to find a job. People – particularly black and brown men – who because of our racist court system, have a criminal record and have a harder time finding a job. Republicans’ solution is to starve them.
Enough is enough of this callous Scrooging – especially right before the holidays. We cannot let that stand.
Right now, we’re counting on this team of troublemakers to call on the Trump administration to not starve people by cutting off their food assistance. Will you add your name to the petition and show Trump that his miserly trickle-down policies won’t stand?
