A Hero Laid To Rest
Jersey City Detective Joseph Seals was laid to rest yesterday. Thousands of fellow law enforcement officers from nearby communities lined up 12 deep to pay their last respects to this dedicated public servant, devoted husband and father of five children.
Seals was the first victim killed in a vicious attack last week that ended at a kosher market where three more innocent people were gunned down. The two attackers, one male and one female, were allegedly associated with the Black Hebrew Israelite movement, a racist and anti-Semitic group. One had posted anti-law enforcement messages on social media prior to the attack.
This shooting was just the latest incident in a growing list of anti-Semitic crimes, which have been steadily rising since 2013. That year, the Anti-Defamation League recorded 751 anti-Semitic incidents across the United States. Last year it recorded 1,879 anti-Semitic incidents.
Sadly, America's college campuses, our institutions of higher learning, have become incubators of hate. Anti-Semitism, spurred on by the BDS movement, runs rampant at many colleges and universities. Thankfully, President Trump took executive action to combat it last week.
The ancient evil of anti-Semitism is something we must all vigilantly guard against.
The political left must call out and extricate anti-Semitism within its ranks.
The political right must call out and extricate anti-Semitism within its ranks.
Christians must call out and extricate anti-Semitism within our pews.
Muslims must call out and extricate anti-Semitism within their mosques.
As Christians United for Israel founder Pastor John Hagee so aptly stated:
"Anti-Semitism is not just a Jewish problem, it's everyone's problem. And it is not just the world's oldest hatred, it is sin. . . We cannot sit idly by as this darkness casts a shadow over our society. . .
"That is why we at Christians United for Israel have chosen to very publicly reemphasize the need for our members and Christians around the world to fulfill their God-given mandate to stand with their Jewish brothers and sisters, be they neighbors down the street or allies in Israel."
