Greetings from the Executive Director

Dear friend,

What an amazing couple of weeks! Since becoming the new Executive Director of the Secular Coalition for America, I have had the opportunity to talk with leadership from our member organizations, work with our Board and staff, and hear from donors and supporters about why the Secular Coalition for America is so important. I couldn’t be more thrilled for the opportunity to work with so many dedicated, smart, and passionate people.

And, we all have a lot of work to do. We are aware of the on-going assault on rights from the white Christian nationalists. It was the Dobbs decision to overturn Roe that proved a wake-up call to me and to millions around the country. Then, just yesterday, a federal judge deemed that employers do NOT need to provide coverage for PrEP – a life-saving medication that is critical in the efforts to end the HIV epidemic. The judge said he supports religious exemptions from federal policy mandates if a person’s religious belief is “sincerely held.” What?!?

If your religious beliefs make it ok for someone to get sick and potentially die, maybe you should look for a new religion, or, maybe, none at all.

Attacks on our rights will continue at the Capitol, in state houses, and in the courts. Every day there are more examples of officials using ‘religion’ as an excuse to discriminate. The Secular Coalition for America will continue to ensure the separation of government and religion and that the rights of the nonreligious are not taken away. Our collective voices make us stronger. You are a critical part of that.

You know how important our work is and we value your continued support. Thank you for your donations, your activism, your thoughtful dedication to our mission.

We are in a very critical time in our nation’s history. I agree with the President that no less than our democracy is on the ballot this November. The stakes are too high and the potential consequences too great. Please consider supporting the efforts of the SCA as the election approaches.

Thank you again for all you do for our movement. Now, let’s get to work!
