Hey Swing Left So-Cal,
A few months ago, our colleague Steve sent a heart-felt email about Katie Hill’s resignation. Now, we have marching orders: The CA-25 special election is scheduled for March 3rd, and we’re jumping in.
We won this seat once, and we can—and must—do it again. Flipping this seat helped us take back the House and our majority was able to investigate Trump.
There are serious issues on the line in CA-25. After the tragic shooting in Santa Clarita, it’s never been more important to make progress on gun control reform. If Republicans win back this seat, we won’t see the progress we need to keep our community safe.
Special elections are tougher than midterms: it will take everything we have to win this fight for the second time. Donate to help keep CA-25 blue—your dollars will go to the Democratic winner of the March primary and help them square off against their Republican opponent.
Here’s what holding this seat looks like: On March 3rd, voters will vote in a special election to determine who will represent CA-25 for the rest of Hill’s term. If no candidate gets a majority of the vote, the top two candidates will face off in a runoff.
At the same time, on the same ballot, voters will vote for who will represent CA-25 for the next term. The top two finishers in that election will advance to the general election. Two elections, two chances for Republicans to take this seat away from us.
All our work here serves one purpose: to defend this seat from Republican control. Leading up to March 3rd, we need to pool as much money as we can to make sure Democrats hold onto this seat. Donate to help us keep CA-25—every dollar goes to the future Democratic candidate.
Let’s do this,
Ethan, Catherine, Matt, Michelle, and the Swing Left Team
