The Call to be Vigilant: Spiritually and Legally
Dear Friend,
It was an honor to sit down once again with Charles Limandri, chief counsel for the Thomas More Society in California. His mission is defending religious liberty, freedom of speech, and family values inthe largest state in the Union. He has litigated and won many high profile cases in the past few years, the most recent of which has been the defense of the right of churches to stay open during the drastic lockdown situations.

During the pandemic, churches were denied that right while abortion clinics and liquor stores stayed open. Limandri changed that and now all Californians can exercise their right to worship in churches again.

On the pro-life front, although Dobbs Supreme Court decisionlast June was a watershed for our country, every pro-lifer knows that overturning Roe does not end abortion. In fact, in the post-Roe world, the battle lines may be even more strictly drawn, as they will require us to focus on fifty state battles rather than on just one monolithic target like the Supreme Court.
In this second video interview I conducted with Charles Limandri, we delve more deeply into the reality and ongoing possibility of violence against Catholics following Dobbs. Case in point, the wild protests at Supreme Court Justices’ homes were exclusively against Catholic Justices as was the death threat and attempt to assassinate Justice Kavanaugh after the decision.
Limandri noted that two groups in particular are responsible for the ramping up of violence and threats against Catholic churches and pro-life establishment. Ruth Sent Us (the ladies that dress in red puritan dresses and white caps) has a track record of disrupting Catholic Masses. When they attempted to do this in Los Angeles’ Cathedral they were appropriately stopped by some faithful parishioners.
The other group, known as Jane’s Revenge, has called for violence against pro-lifers and is responsible for numerous acts of vandalism already.
Mr. Limandri stated forcefully in the interview that “it’s time for Catholics to stand up and defend their churches and rights!” He further noted that the current Administration in Washington has been extremely slow to react to these crimes (apparently, they’re too busy raiding the homes of former Presidents) but that there are still legal remedies available to us through groups like the Thomas More Society.
In the face of increased violence and chaos in society, we must remain vigilant both legally and spiritually, using every remedy at our disposal to protect ourselves, our families, and our churches. Thankfully, we are not without hope.
Our Lord told us to be vigilant and then reminded us of the fruits of perseverance: “Men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved” (Matt 10:22).
