Support Higher Standards for Organic Animal Products by Submitting a Comment to the USDA!

Dear John,

Thanks to members like you making your voices heard, the US Department of Agriculture is proposing to reinstate regulations, withdrawn by the previous administration, which would lead to significant improvements in how animals are raised under the USDA's Organic label. We now need your help to get the rule over the finish line and ensure it is implemented as quickly as possible!

The proposed animal welfare regulations have been a high priority for AWI and many other animal protection and organic farming organizations for decades. If finalized, the rule will result in millions of animals having environmental enrichment, including access to the outdoors, which will improve their welfare and allow them to live more natural lives. Importantly, the rule will also lead to better consistency in the level of animal care provided by organic producers, leveling the playing field for smaller, higher-welfare farmers and boosting confidence in the organic label.

What You Can Do

If you prefer to submit comments to the USDA through the mail, you can do so by sending written comments to the address below. Be sure to reference Docket No. AMS-NOP-21-0073 in mailed comments, and please note that they must be postmarked by October 11, 2022.
