Governor Kemp officially requested emergency assistance for those affected by the flooding in Chattooga County from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). If FEMA determines that federal assistance is warranted, the request will be sent to the President of the United States for approval.
If the President signs the federal declaration, several resources will become available to affected residents for a 60-day period, including:
- FEMA grants to individuals (no repayment required)
- FEMA will have agents on the ground in affected areas to take applications on the spot
- Applications can be filed online, by phone, or in person with an on-the-ground FEMA agent
- Filing dates will be set upon the President signing the declaration
- SBA low-interest rate loans will be available
- Personal less than 2%
- Business less than 3%
- These loans will be available to business, homeowners, renters and non-profits
- SBA will have same filing methods as FEMA
- If an applicant is not credit worthy, there will be appeal rights for loan denial
ALL RESOURCES ARE CONTINGENT UPON THE APPROVAL OF A FEDERAL DECLARATION
